Greenergy and Hydrogenious team up to develop green hydrogen supply chain

Greenergy and Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies have agreed on a feasibility study for the development of a commercial-scale hydrogen supply chain to reduce the cost of green hydrogen shipped from Canada to the UK.

Hydrogenious' mature and safe liquid Organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC) technology enables hydrogen to be safely stored and transported using existing liquid fuel infrastructure. Hydrogen temporarily absorbed into LOHCs can be safely and easily transported and disposed of in ports and urban areas. After unloading the hydrogen at the entry point, the hydrogen is released from the liquid carrier and delivered to the end user as pure green hydrogen.

Greenergy's distribution network and strong customer base will also enable products to be delivered to industrial and commercial customers across the UK.

Greenergy CEO Christian Flach said the partnership with Hydrogenious is an important step in a strategy to leverage existing storage and delivery infrastructure to deliver cost-effective hydrogen to customers. Hydrogen supply is an important goal of energy transformation.

Dr. Toralf Pohl, chief business officer of Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies, said North America will soon become the primary market for large-scale clean hydrogen exports to Europe. The UK is committed to hydrogen consumption and Hydrogenious will work with Greenergy to explore the possibility of establishing a LoHC-based hydrogen supply chain, including building storage plant assets in Canada and the UK capable of handling more than 100 tonnes of hydrogen.
