Comparison of properties of silicon carbide ceramics and alumina ceramics

Sic ceramics not only have excellent mechanical properties at room temperature, such as high bending strength, excellent oxidation resistance, good corrosion resistance, high wear resistance and low friction coefficient, but also have the best mechanical properties at high temperature (strength, creep resistance, etc.) among known ceramic materials. Hot pressing sintering, non-pressing sintering, hot isostatic pressing sintering materials, the biggest characteristic of silicon carbide is high temperature strength, ordinary ceramic material at 1200 ~ 1400 degrees Celsius strength will be significantly reduced, and silicon carbide at 1400 degrees Celsius bending strength is still maintained at a higher level of 500 ~600MPa, so the working temperature can reach 1600 degrees Celsius; Silicon carbide plate texture hard and brittle, expansion coefficient is small, cold and hot resistance, not easy to deformation. Silicon carbide is the least dense, so the ceramic parts made of silicon carbide are the lightest.

Alumina ceramic is a kind of alumina (Al2O3) as the main body of the ceramic material, used in thick film integrated circuits. Alumina ceramics have good conductivity, mechanical strength and high temperature resistance. It should be noted that ultrasonic washing is required. Its wear resistance is 266 times that of manganese steel and 171.5 times that of high chromium cast iron. Alumina ceramic is a kind of high quality insulating material, which is often used to make ceramic insulating sheet, insulating ring and other parts. Alumina ceramics can withstand high temperature up to 1750℃ (alumina content more than 99%).
