Introduction of Graphite electrode

Graphite electrode is mainly used in EAF steelmaking. Electric furnace steelmaking is to use graphite electrode to introduce current into the furnace. The strong current generates arc discharge through gas at the lower end of the electrode, and the heat generated by the arc is used for smelting. According to the capacity of the electric furnace, graphite electrodes with different diameters are used. In order to make the electrodes continuously used, the electrodes are connected by the electrode threaded joint. The graphite electrode for steelmaking accounts for 70-80% of the total amount of graphite electrode. 2、 It is used in the mine thermal power furnace. Its characteristic is that the lower part of the conductive electrode is buried in the charge. Therefore, in addition to the heat generated by the arc between the electric plate and the charge, the heat is also generated by the resistance of the charge when the current passes through the charge. 3、 Graphitization furnace, glass melting furnace and electric furnace for producing graphite products are all resistance furnaces. The materials in the furnace are not only heating resistance, but also heating object. Usually, the conductive graphite electrode is inserted into the furnace head wall at the end of the hearth, so the conductive electrode is not consumed continuously.

Application fields:

(1) It is used in electric arc steelmaking furnace, which is a big user of graphite electrode. In China, the output of EAF steel accounts for about 18% of the crude steel output, and the graphite electrode for steelmaking accounts for 70% ~ 80% of the total consumption of graphite electrode. Electric furnace steelmaking is to use the graphite electrode to introduce current into the furnace, and use the high temperature heat source generated by the arc between the end of the electrode and the charge to smelt.

2) It is used in submerged arc furnace; submerged arc furnace is mainly used for producing industrial silicon and yellow phosphorus, etc. it is characterized by that the lower part of conductive electrode is buried in the charge, forming an arc in the charge layer, and heating the charge by using the heat energy generated by the resistance of the charge itself. The submerged arc furnace with higher current density needs graphite electrode, for example, about 100kg graphite electrode is needed for every 1t silicon production, and about 100kg graphite electrode is needed for every 1t silicon production About 40 kg of graphite electrode is needed for t yellow phosphorus.

(3) It is used for resistance furnace; graphitization furnace for producing graphite products, furnace for melting glass and electric furnace for producing silicon carbide all belong to resistance furnace. The materials in the furnace are both heating resistance and heated object. Generally, the conductive graphite electrode is embedded in the furnace head wall at the end of resistance furnace, and the graphite electrode used here is not continuously consumed.

(4) It is used to prepare special-shaped graphite products; the blank of graphite electrode is also used to process various special-shaped graphite products such as crucible, mould, boat dish and heating body. For example, in the quartz glass industry, 10t graphite electrode blank is needed for every 1t electric melting tube; 100kg graphite electrode blank is needed for every 1t quartz brick.
