What is carbon felt

Taking polyacrylonitrile based carbon felt as an example, the area weight is 500g/m2 and 1000g/m2, the longitudinal and transverse strength (N/mm2) are 0.12, 0.16, 0.10, 0.12, the breaking elongation is 3%, 4%, 18%, 16%, and the resistivity (Ω·mm) is 4-6, 3.5-5.5 and 7-9, 6-8, respectively. The thermal conductivity was 0.06W/(m·K)(25), the specific surface area was > 1.5m2/g, the ash content was less than 0.3%, and the sulfur content was less than 0.03%.


Activated carbon fiber (ACF) is a new type of high efficiency adsorption material beyond activated carbon (GAC), and it is a new generation product. It has a highly developed microporous structure, large adsorption capacity, fast desorption speed, good purification effect, it can be processed into a variety of specifications of felt, silk, cloth. The product has the characteristics of heat, acid and alkali resistance.


Process characteristics:

The adsorption capacity of COD, BOD and oil in aqueous solution is much higher than that of GAC. The adsorption resistance is small, the speed is fast, the desorption is rapid and thorough.


The production methods are: (1) carbon filament air flow into the net after needling; (2) Carbonization of pre-oxygenated silk felt; (3) Preoxidation and carbonization of polyacrylonitrile fiber felt. Used as insulation materials for vacuum furnaces and inert gas furnaces, hot gas or liquid and molten metal filters, porous fuel cell electrodes, catalyst carriers, composite linings for corrosion resistant vessels and composite materials.
