The water pump is an important part of the automobile engine system. In the cylinder body of the automobile engine, there are several water channels for cooling water circulation, which are connected with the radiator (commonly known as water tank) in the front of the automobile through water pipes to form a large water circulation system. At the upper outlet of the engine, there is a water pump, which is driven by the fan belt to put the water in the water channel of the engine cylinder body Pump hot water out and cold water in.
There is also a thermostat next to the water pump. When the car is just started (cold car), it does not open, so that the cooling water does not pass through the water tank, but only circulates in the engine (commonly known as small cycle). When the temperature of the engine reaches above 95 degrees, it opens, and the hot water in the engine is pumped into the water tank. When the car is moving forward, the cold air blows through the water tank and takes away the heat.
How do pumps work
Centrifugal water pump is widely used in automobile engine. Its basic structure is composed of water pump shell, connecting disc or pulley, water pump shaft and bearing or shaft bearing, water pump impeller and water seal device. The engine drives the bearing and impeller of the water pump to rotate through the belt pulley. The coolant in the water pump is driven by the impeller to rotate together. Under the action of centrifugal force, it is thrown to the edge of the water pump shell. At the same time, a certain pressure is generated, and then it flows out from the outlet channel or water pipe. The pressure in the center of the impeller is reduced because the coolant is thrown out. The coolant in the water tank is sucked into the impeller through the water pipe under the pressure difference between the water pump inlet and the impeller center to realize the reciprocating circulation of the coolant.
How to maintain the water pump
1. First, sound is used to determine whether the bearing is in good condition. If the sound is abnormal, replace the bearing.
2. Disassemble and check whether the impeller is worn. If it is worn, it will affect the flow head efficiency and need to be replaced.
3. Check whether the mechanical seal can still be used. If it cannot be used, it needs to be replaced
4. Check whether the oil tank is short of oil. If the oil is short, add it to the right place.
Of course, it is difficult for ordinary car owners to complete the above steps, and it is difficult to achieve self maintenance of water pump. At the same time, as a mid-term maintenance project, the replacement cycle of water pump is long, which is often ignored by the car owners. So for most car owners, regular inspection and replacement when necessary is the best way to maintain the pump.
